Many companies delay modernization believing they must replace everything at once. There is a safer middle path.

A core system that has run for decades often cannot be replaced — for regulatory reasons, because the risk is too high, or because nobody dares touch it. The good news is that modernization does not have to start with replacement.
An integration layer approach lets new systems stand alongside the old one. Middleware translates and synchronizes data between them, while the core system remains the source of truth for the functions that genuinely belong there.
What deserves the most attention is failure handling. Synchronization will fail at some point, and the system must be designed to retry in tiers and log every failure so it can be traced.
